Trimember and Triptych

18 Saturday Aug 2012

Posted by KCPS in Meeting Report, PSNZ Notices

It was another great meeting last Monday with the Members’ exhibition.  More than 30 of us saw some great images from three of our members Stu, Gavin and Des, and heard about their unique styles and interests in photography.

For those who were able to be there, here’s an image from each as a memento;  for those who weren’t, this is just some of what you missed!

Australian Scene – (c)Stuart Ayres

“Shag versus Eel” – (c)Gavin Klee

“Anglican Perspective” – a photo of one of the black and white prints – (c) Des Johnston

From three members to three panels – a reminder from PSNZ about the Nelson National Triptych Salon, which closes at the end of August.

PSNZ National Convention

14 Wednesday Mar 2012

See the information and reminder below – time to register for the PSNZ National Convention if you haven’t already done so.

I can vouch for the friendliness and hospitality of the people. And for the delicious oysters. I spent last weekend in Invercargill to observe the NATEX Selection process, and learn as much as possible about how it works, since KCPS will run NATEX in 2013.

Speaking of NATEX, the 2012 results are just out.  The selectors set a high standard, with just 114 of 604 open projected image entries selected, 102 of 414 open prints, 80 of 370 nature projected images, and 55 of 187 nature prints.   Two images from KCPS members were selected – Shona Jaray with an open print of “The Coalpit Dam” and me with an open print of “Incoming“.

≈ Comments Off on Entries for NATEX 2012 Due Soon

This is a reminder that entries are now being accepted for the 2012 PSNZ Canon National Exhibition.

(As announced at our meeting last Monday, next year KCPS will be running this exhibition, in association with the Wellington Photographic Society who are holding the PSNZ National Convention in Wellington in 2013.)

Entry forms are available on the PSNZ website  or by contacting the NATEX Committee (email Ross Forrester).

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 28th February 2012

Accepted entries will be exhibited at the 2012 PSNZ National Convention, 25th – 29th April at the Ascot Park Hotel, Invercargill. Entry is open to persons residing in New Zealand and to members of the Society residing overseas.

There is a discounted entry fee for individual PSNZ members (just as there is a discounted registration fee for PSNZ members attending the convention).  A PSNZ membership application form is available if you would like to join and be eligible for these discounts.

PSNZ’s Most Wanted – Your Images

27 Friday Jan 2012

≈ Comments Off on PSNZ’s Most Wanted – Your Images

It’s well worth checking out Tony Bridge’s website including his blog.

In a recent post Tony asked people to send in digital images that could be used  as test images for people who have applied to become PSNZ accredited judges.  He needs at least 100 of them. They need not be award-winners – a variety is what is needed. As Tony put it, “They do not have to be your finest work.”

Check out the post for more details, and please contribute some images if you can.

≈ Comments Off on PSNZ Membership Offer

Have you considered joining the Photographic Society of New Zealand? It’s well worthwhile.

We are an affiiliated society, so if you join PSNZ you get $5 off your membership subscription for KCPS. You will also receive a free copy of New Zealand Camera 2012 when it is printed next year.

But wait, there’s more.  PSNZ is running a membership promotion in association with Canon. This offer is for all new members who join PSNZ from 1 October 2011 and before 31 December 2011, plus for all existing members who renew their subs by 31 December (for 2012).

Your name will be entered into the prize draw for a Canon MG8250 printer plus a Canon PIXMA Creative Pack of paper, with a combined retail value of $650, kindly donated by Canon.

Subscription notices for 2012 for existing PSNZ members will be sent out in early November and you will be reminded of this offer. The Prize will be drawn in January and the winner notified by email. The winner’s name and possibly their photo with the Canon representative will also be displayed in Cameratalk and on the PSNZ website.

Spring Salon Judging – Tuesday 25 October

24 Monday Oct 2011

≈ Comments Off on Spring Salon Judging – Tuesday 25 October

Tracey Robinson

The main event for our regular 4th Tuesday meeting will be the judging of the spring salon. Tracey Robinson from Rotorua kindly stepped in at the last minute when the pre-arranged judge unexpectedly had an assignment in Australia. Tracey will not be able to be here in person, so we will read through her emailed ratings and comments.

The meeting will be at 7:30 pm Tuesday 25 October in the Presbyterian Church Hall, 43 Ngaio Road, Waikanae. See you there.

While I have your attention – don’t forget our upcoming Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 30 October. And time is running out to enter the Jack Sprosen AV competition – entries must be in by 4 November.
