Club News and Acknowledgements

Recent KCPS activities and achievements include entries in three PSNZ inter club competitions and the awarding of PSNZ honours.

KCPS was awarded second place in the Bowron Landscape competition with images from Greg Whitfield, Jacky Challis, Shona Jaray and Graham Lonsdale. Many thanks to Jacky Challis and Kelly Munro for contributions to the selection process.

This year thanks go to Eva Petro, Caroline Ludford and Ian Yeoman for compiling our entry to the Wiltshire Digital Image Cup. Images provided by Eva, Greg, Ian and Jenny Setchell.

Having won the Trenna Packer last year, and despite a very strong entry comprising images from Carol Molineux, Gavin Klee, Rhonda Billington and Jim Embury, KCPS didn’t make it into the top three. Thanks to Carol, Gavin and Rhonda for putting together the club entry:

Finally, warm congratulations to Ian Yeoman on achieving LPSNZ honours this year.

The Kapiti Coast Photographic Society is holding its 2022 exhibition at the Roderick and Gillian Deane Community Art Space, Paraparaumu Library from 25 July to 5 August. It will be open to the public during library hours, after its official opening on 24th July to the club members and invited guests.

Sixty-four images are showcased in 3 sections: Kapiti, Open and inspired by the Written Word. Images will be for sale at the end of the exhibition.

The cost of printing and mounting has been partly met by a grant from the Kapiti Coast District Council Creative Communities Scheme, and partly from funds from the sale of the club’s annual Kapiti Coast calendar.

John Boyd

The 2022 Frank Hinchcliff salon was held on 11th July. The competition is for prints only and commemorates a founder member of the Waikanae Camera Club that was a forebear of the Kapiti Coast Photographic Society.

We were lucky enough to have John Boyd FPNZ APSNZ as judge, and he provided some great feedback and commentary on the seventeen prints submitted by ten different photographers. These comments are available in the members-only area of this site.

John selected three images as highly recommended:

  • “Agapanthus Buds” by Eva Petro (top right of Print Set 2 below)
  • “Ocean Wanderer” by Roger Smith (second row, left had side of Print Set 1)
  • “Wabi Sabi – Beauty in Imperfection” by Shona Jaray (bottom row middle image of Print Set 1)

Runner up was “Feed me…feed me” by Roger Smith (bottom left of Print Set 2).

But this year’s Frank Hinchcliff Trophy Winner was “Sunset Fishing” by Neil Gordon (third row, right hand image of Print Set 1).
