Lighting Development Night

11 Friday Sep 2020

Posted by Greg in Meeting Report

≈ Comments Off on Lighting Development Night

September’s development night was spent experimenting with the club’s studio lighting gear that was recently donated to us by Kim Duckworth.  A big thanks to David for imparting his lighting knowledge to the group, and also to Nicola who sat patiently throughout as the lighting model.

We have 3 professional lights, lighting stands, a softbox, umbrellas and reflectors. The intention is to make it available to be loaned out to KCPS members, and we could also use it in the future for some studio lighting projects at future meetings or workshops.

≈ Comments Off on 2019 End of Year Awards

The annual end of year awards dinner was held on 18th November at a new venue for us the Lloyd Parker Plateau Centre in Parkwood Village. This marked the last formal event of the KCPS calendar. 2019 president Greg Whitfield presented the main club awards, with guest Bruce Girdwood judging and awarding the Best of Year trophies.

The club awards are taken by totalling the scores across all four seasonal salons, with bonus points being added for images that match the subjects for the Regional Interclub Print competition.

Moira O’Malley, who was last year’s runner up for the Novice Grade combined print and digital award went one better this year by taking the win, just ahead of Warren Sutton.

Novice Winner Moira O’Malley

The Intermediate Grade Digital winner was Graham Lonsdale, with Isobelle Gosling runner up.

Intermediate Digital winner Graham Lonsdale

Greg Whitfield took out the Intermediate Grade Print award, ahead of Di Daniels.

In the Advanced Grade Digital, Gavin Klee won with Roger Smith runner up.

Advanced Digital winner Gavin Klee

Winner of the Advanced Grade Print was Hugh Scott. Barry Culling was runner up. Unfortunately Hugh could not be with us at the dinner hence no cheesy photo.

The major trophies for overall best print and best digital of the year were judged and awarded by Bruce Girdwood.

Barry Culling won the Peg Griffin Trophy for Best of Year Print for his Water Lily with Frog. Alison Viskovic was placed second for Isolation.

The Waikanae Cup for Best of Year Digital was won by Roger Smith for Angry Bird. This rounded off a successful year for Roger Smith who earlier in the calendar won the 2019 Frank Hinchcliff Trophy. Carol Molineux was runner up for her Tararua Clearance.

Roger and Barry had a good year between them, with a number of awards and trophies.

Trophies galore!

Our interclub sets won in both print and digital, and Nicola McGinty won the Stratford Cup for her portrait “Behind the Mask”, judged best print from all the interclub print entries.

Here’s our president, Alison Viskovic after Vonnie Cave presented her with the Palmerston Cup for prints and the Wanganui Cup for digital.

And what a beautiful evening it was.

22nd February 2016 BBQ & Exhibition Open Evening

About 30 members and 19 visitors enjoyed a sausage sizzle and nibbles at our second meeting of the year. We were really pleased that lots of local publicity drew so many visitors, and already seven of the visitors have joined the club.

This evening also saw the first use of our new set of print easels, made for us by Kapiti Menzshed, to show examples of work brought along by members. Alison got all the exhibitors up to introduce themselves and say a little about their images – one of the visitors said later it was the friendliness and variety of work shown that made her decide to join.

Four of the prints shown, with a steam train theme, were the club entry for the Bledisloe Interclub competition – but we won’t show them here till after the judging!

AGM for 2015

10 Tuesday Nov 2015

Posted by KCPS in Meeting Report, Reminder

≈ Comments Off on AGM for 2015

Last night’s AGM was all over in 13 minutes – a record time.  That doesn’t mean that important decisions weren’t made. The following is based on a summary kindly provided by Alison Viskovic, who was re-elected President.

Reports had been pre-circulated, and no major issues arose. The subscriptions for the coming year will remain unchanged.

A highlight was the unanimous vote that Hugh Scott be appointed a Life Member, recognising his many years of service on and off the committee, and the enthusiasm and stimulation he always brings to the club.

Hugh and Alison

Hugh being presented with his new  “Life Member” badge by Alison

Neil Gordon has retired from the committee after a number of years as committee member, president, past president and guardian of the blog and website functions.  The meeting thanked him for all his contributions to the club.

The committee for the coming year is:

  • President – Alison Viskovic
  • Treasurer – Jo Goudsblom
  • Membership Secretary – Carol Molineux (Jo and Carol are also sharing vice-president duties)
  • Immediate Past President – Ian Linning
  • Committee members – Karyn Crocker, Gavin Klee, Rachel Stevens, Craig Burleigh, Roger Smith.

Following the AGM we had some good discussions about themes for next year’s Kapiti project.  We also viewed the print set which came second in the Bledisloe competition, as well as club and successful individual entries for the Central Regional Convention, on in New Plymouth this coming weekend.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our end-of-year dinner, Monday 23 November. We need to confirm numbers next week, so please do your online payment soon if you have not done so already.

KCPS Interclub Successes

23 Wednesday Sep 2015

Posted by KCPS in Competitions, Meeting Report, News

≈ Comments Off on KCPS Interclub Successes

KCPS has done well in two recent competitions.

George Chance – 2nd for NZ

George Chance Cup – only just beyond our grasp!

We entered a set of four prints for the George Chance Interclub Print Competition for landscapes.  I’m pleased to say that KCPS came second.

Congratulations to Jo Goudsblom, Gavin Klee, Carol Molineux and Rachel Stevens whose prints were used for our entry.

Thanks also to Alison Viskovic for her hard work in printing and matting the set.  We won’t show the (stunning) print set publicly online just now, because some prints may be used for other club entries.

Wellington Interclub Print Battle – 2nd

Another 2nd for this interclub print competition, that took place in Petone on Tuesday 8 September.  Well done to Peter Ellis, Neil Gordon, Jo Goudsblom, Carol Molineux, Hugh Scott and Alison Viskovic whose prints were used, after being selected at our KCPS meeting on 10 August.

Eight club members were there for the live judging. We were apparently in a three-way tie for first half-way through, but ended up just pipped at the post (by one point?) at the end.  The winner was the Aotearoa Philippines Photographic Society, who will also be the host next year.
