News from Central Regional 2017

Stratford Camera Club hosted a very friendly convention over the weekend. A good mix of speakers and activities had been arranged, and the weather cooperated for the Saturday afternoon field trips. The food provided a sensible and tasty range to suit various tastes. Highlights for me were Kevin Bone on Friday evening, Tony Carter and Ron Willems on Sunday morning. The salon images were well displayed, both print and digital. The dinner entertainment made the most of local talent, and the committee and their helpers all made us feel very welcome – in all, a successful regional convention.

Here’s how well we did.

KCPS came 2nd in the print selection and 5th in the projected selection.

The results are as follows, a huge congrats to Shona, Neil, Teresa, Carol & Rachel.

This is what Teresa had to say about the field trip to Nigel Ogle’s Tawhiti Museum.

“An incredible display of handmade models depicting the history of the area. Nigel custom makes every tiny figure, animal, plant and equipment as well as the life size models. Extraordinary!!! Not easy to photograph glass displays but these might give an idea of how intricate the work is.”

A big congrats to our Club President Karyn who recently won a national Women’s Institute photo competition judged by Lance Lawson.

KCPS came in third place (our best ever) in the Trenna Packer interclub nature competition, with this set of six images, including Neil Gordon’s “Fog Bow and Glory” top middle. The two images bottom left are by Gavin Klee, top right by Roger Brent Smith, and top left and bottom right by Carol Molineux. You can view the wining sets HERE.

Well done everyone.

Frank Hinchcliff Due 10th July

05 Wednesday Jul 2017

Posted by rachelstevens01 in Reminder

≈ Comments Off on Frank Hinchcliff Due 10th July

On Monday 10 July Neil Gordon will give a presentation on taking photos from planes (not drones!) and we will also have a demonstration of the Spyder the club has bought for members to borrow to colour calibrate their monitors.
That Monday is also the night to hand in print entries for the Frank Hinchcliffe Trophy – this is awarded only for prints, and commemorates a founder member of the Waikanae Camera Club that became KCPS.
Please note these special rules –
  • For the Frank Hinchcliff competition in July a member may submit one or two Prints.
  • There is no set theme.
  • The entries must not have been submitted to a previous KCPS Salon or Frank Hinchcliff competition, and cannot be submitted to subsequent KCPS Salons.
  • The images must also have been captured within the last two years.
Your Hinchcliff entries can of course still be entered in any external salons, such as the Central Regional later this year.
The HInchcliff images will be judged in 24 July by Shona Jaray – our own club member and one of the PSNZ National Judge Trainers.

≈ Comments Off on Street Photography 1st May – Development Night

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that our development night is this Monday the 1st of May and is on Street Photography.

It would be a good idea to bring your camera so we can help set up useful settings combinations, etc.

This will be followed by a Meetup on the 13th May in Wellington to practice what we have learnt. It just so happens that the LUX Light Festival is on that day so we should be able to get some interesting shots. To RSVP to the Meetup please click HERE

See you all Monday 🙂
