Time to discuss and contribute to the planning of our program for this year, such as speakers, Meetup venues, development topics, future exhibitions -We would love you to get your thinking caps on and share your ideas.

There will also be a fun photography quiz at the end.

The following meeting on the 27th February will be our “OPEN NIGHT”, please remember to bring a friend and a matted print of your favorite image to have on display. It will be the same as last year BBQ and nibbles.

Wellington Photography Festival 18th February – 4th March 2017 “PHOTIVAL”

Various locations around Wellington.

Wellington’s first photography festival in over a decade, aims to use photography as social commentary to discuss widely important issues we face in the world today.  We are proud to be acting as a bridge between our audiences and many local and international organisations working for positive social change. Visit our About page to see who we’re working with this year. All our exhibitions are free and open to the general public. We will also be hosting a panel discussion.

Visit the homepage  http://www.photival.com/#home for links to the events/venues and further information.

If there is one particular exhibition that appeals to most, let me know and we can arrange a meetup.

Cheers.

KCPS 1st Meeting for the YEAR.

An early reminder that our first meeting of the year will be on Monday 13 February – a general catch-up for us all, planning for the year’s events, and a surprise item the committee are planning. The brochure for the year will be available at that meeting.

Wiltshire Cup & Bledisloe Cup 2017

Top of the agenda right now, however, is putting together two sets of images taken on the south Wairarapa coast by our members.  These are to enter in the Wiltshire Cup (four digital images) and the Bledisloe Cup (four prints, subjects must be taken in NZ).  A selection subcommittee will decide on the final sets.   Once we know which images are chosen for the prints we will ask for larger high-resolution files to print from. Some images may come from last year’s field trip but others are welcome.

Please email your images in the size you would submit for club salons: max 1080 ppi  on the vertical side, max 1620 pip on the horizontal side, SRGb and JPG.  Your images can be of landscapes, buildings, people, activities, seascapes, even abstracts… we’d like lots to choose from. They need not have been in a club salon beforehand. Everything you send will be deleted from the computer once decisions have been made.

The deadline to receive these images is Friday 27 January. Send to aviskovic@paradise.net.nz.

PSNZ National Exhibition 2017

Entries are open to any New Zealander and PSNZ member residing overseas.

Enter here http://www.photographyontheedge.org/ and click on the ‘Salon’ tab for details and Entry Form.

The New Zealand International Salon

The PSNZ New Zealand International Salon is open for your entries and will close on the 20th February 2017.

Heaps of awards to be won including 12 Gold Medals.

NZ$4.50 per image. up to 4 images in each section.

Four sections:

  • Open
  • Monochrome
  • Nature
  • Creative

For full information and to enter visit http://www.psnzinternationalsalons.com

65th PSNZ National Convention – Photography on the Edge

The Auckland Photographic Society is pleased to announce that registration for the 65th PSNZ National Convention – Photography on the Edge.

Being held at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, from 6 – 9 April 2017, this will be an exciting opportunity for everyone to learn from the best, experience the enthusiasm of passionate photographers and to interact socially with other members and friends from throughout New Zealand.

If you have never been to a PSNZ national convention before, put an ‘I need to be here’ action on your calendar.

Register now for the ‘early bird’ discount and ensure you don’t miss out on your preferred choice of workshop and field trip.  The timing of the field trips will allow delegates to attend one in the morning, be returned to the hotel, and to then attend an afternoon session. Read the instructions carefully and follow the easy steps to register.

There is an outstanding lineup of talented photographers, speakers and presenters, as well as a great support from sponsors and trade stands – you will definitely be spoilt for choice.

The website is packed with information, so check it out for yourself and don’t delay your registration at www.photographyontheedge.org

Happy Holidays

13 Tuesday Dec 2016

merry-christmas-and-happy-new-year-20131

Hi everyone – last message of this year!

Update on AGM and following Committee meeting:

At the AGM we elected a full committee, except for a President! (Alison is not able to do a further year as president, according to the club rules.) The committee have decided to have a “rolling presidency,” with each member taking a turn for a month to chair the committee meeting and the two main club meetings. Alison has taken the role of Secretary, and so all routine business and communication can be handled by her.

The committee members for 2017 are:

Secretary and Immediate Past President – Alison Viskovic

Treasurer and Membership – Jo Goudsblom

Competition Secretary and Hostess – Karyn Crocker

Committee members – Sharon Burleigh, Gavin Klee, Rachel Stevens, Greg Whitfield.

We have finished the year on a high note:

  • The end-of year dinner was a very successful occasion;
  • The Mahara exhibition of BW portraits of retired members of the community received a lot of positive feedback; and
  • The Kapiti calendar has been selling well – net profit to date is just over $2000 with only 40 left to sell. Those last few will be sold through the i-Site in Paraparaumu, if you want to buy any more. The calendar proceeds will enable us to fund things to benefit all members such fees for a special speaker or workshop,  or the costs of prints sets and exhibitions.

Looking forward to 2017: the committee are planning a range of activities similar to this year, including a field trip, probably in May and probably to Hawkes Bay.  Development sessions will be a “Topic of the Night” series, suited to both less and more experienced photographers. More details of all meetings will be in the club brochure, available at the first main meeting on Monday 13 February.

2017 National Interclub  Salons: One early activity will be putting together club sets to enter in these Salons –  Wiltshire Open Digital, Bledisloe Open Prints (NZ subjects), Bowron Landscape Digital and George Chance Landscape Prints.  We have decided to base our sets on images taken in the area from Lake Ferry to Cape Palliser, starting with some from the 2016 field trip but asking all club members to submit other images they have taken in the area.  While the Bowron and Chance sets need to be land or sea scapes, the open sets could be of buildings, vehicles, activities, wildlife, vegetation etc in that area…. So if you are over in the Wairarapa over the summer, do look for opportunities for new images.  In late January we will ask you to submit digital copies initially for a selection panel, then we will arrange printing of those chosen for print sets.  The sets have to be submitted in February, to be judged so the winners can be shown at Natex.

PSNZ 2017 National Convention “Photography on the Edge” will be in Auckland, 6 to 9 April. Information and registration at http://www.photographyontheedge.org

2017 National Exhibition: Entries opened on 1 December and close on 10 February. Information and entry process are on the Convention website (see above).

The committee wish you all the best for the festive season, and happy image-hunting!

12TH – 30TH DEC 2017 at Artspace Gallery, Paraparaumu Library

A warm invitation is extended to all KCPS members and friends to view Roger’s first exhibition at the Artspace Gallery, Paraparaumu Library. The exhibition features a selection of Roger’s favourite images taken over the last few years in New Zealand and during his travels overseas. The exhibition is “public orientated” rather than for photographers, in that the images are largely those having achieved acclaim on the peer assessment Website “ViewBug”. There are lots of colourful images, some black and whites and, of course, several enormous acrylic faced landscapes.

Photival – Wellington photography festival

07 Wednesday Dec 2016

Posted by rachelstevens01 in Reminder

≈ Comments Off on Photival – Wellington photography festival

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
DEADLINE: FRIDAY 6th JANUARY 2017

New Zealand photographers are invited to submit their work for inclusion in the Photival Photography Festival. Three photographers will be selected to exhibit a selection of work at the Wellington Festival, launching in February 2017. The winners will be selected by a panel of international expert judges: Athol McCredie, Curator of Photography at Te Papa Museum, Nigel Atherton, Editor in Chief of Amateur Photographer, UK, and Myles Little, Photo Editor for TIME Magazine in New York City.

Have your work seen alongside internationally acclaimed photographers, in an exhibition in the city centre, as well as having one of your images displayed across the entire city to be seen by thousands, as part of our promotional campaign.

Theme: BRINK

Our world is on the brink in many respects. Will we save or destroy our environment? Will we create technology that vastly improves our lives or that will stop us from living them? Will we alter the current political systems to make a better world? Will we consider cultures, species, languages important enough to save? Show us your World on the Brink by submitting your work to be in with a chance to win.

CRITERIA

Please submit three images that fall under this year’s theme of ‘Brink‘. We want to see your world on the brink of change, be that environmental, political, social, economic or technological. These would preferably be a series, however we will consider unrelated images if they are of outstanding quality. We’re particularly keen to see work from residents of Wellington and New Zealand. Each submission of three images requires a submission fee of $10, payable through Paypal. You may make more than one submission if you wish.

All three images must be submitted in 300DPI PNG or JPEG. Minimum image size 2000 pixels on the long edge. Conditions of entry apply, please see the website http://www.photival.com/open-call/

KCPS 2017 Calendar

04 Friday Nov 2016

front-coverback-cover

Hi everyone

I’m delighted to say that we are now taking orders for our new Kapiti-Themed calendar, $15.00 per copy.

The above images show the back and front covers – most images are from this year’s Paraparaumu library exhibition.

The calendar is A4 size closed, A3 when open for hanging,  and light enough for mailing (plain envelope included in price). The income from sales will be used for future exhibition costs and for holding the annual subs to their present level.

You can order by:
Emailing aviskovic@paradise.net.nz to say how many you want, then pay online and collect your calendar(s) at the AGM, 14 November, or the end-of-year dinner, 28 November.
Or you can order by email then pay cash when you collect at the AGM or dinner.
Or just bring cash to the AGM or to the dinner, and we’ll have copies there.
We also hope to sell the calendars at the Waikanae Saturday Market, and other locations TBA.

The committee hope you will each buy several for giving as Christmas presents.

Kapiti Arts Trail – Johanna Goudsblom

Our very own treasurer Johanna Goudsblom is exhibiting in the Kapiti Arts Trail.

jo

She has been a professional photographer for many years and recently my focus has been on the medium of creative photo artistry. Creative photo artistry can take the imagination and carry us anywhere.

Her art has been published in the magazine “Living The Photo Artistic Life”, showcasing digital artists from all over the world, and edited by renowned Photoshop tutor Sebastian Michaels.

Her artwork has also been successful with entries accepted in the prestigious Pukekohe Franklin Creative Focus salon – an international annual competition which receives hundreds of entries.

Limited edition pieces can be  purchased as archival giclee canvas prints (in various sizes) or as archival matted fine art prints ready for framing.

Pop down and see her this weekend 5th & 6th November open 10-4pm, 23 Horopito Road, Waikanae.

Well done Jo, your artwork looks amazing.
