Lighting Development Night

September’s development night was spent experimenting with the club’s studio lighting gear that was recently donated to us by Kim Duckworth.  A big thanks to David for imparting his lighting knowledge to the group, and also to Nicola who sat patiently throughout as the lighting model.

We have 3 professional lights, lighting stands, a softbox, umbrellas and reflectors. The intention is to make it available to be loaned out to KCPS members, and we could also use it in the future for some studio lighting projects at future meetings or workshops.

Frank Hinchcliff Results

Winner Carol Molineux being presented the trophy by judge Alison Viskovic

The 2020 Frank Hinchcliff Award was judged by KCPS Past President Alison Viskovic. The competition is for prints only and commemorates a founder member of the Waikanae Camera Club that was a forebear of the Kapiti Coast Photographic Society.

You can read all about the life and times of Frank here.

The winner this year was Carol Molineux with her brilliant image of a Spoonbill entitled “Spunk”. Runner up for the second consecutive year was Greg Whitfield with “Flying Ahead”.

Alison provided some great feedback on the submitted images. A hardcopy of her comments can be found in the Salon Results page on this site. Note that this is password protected for members only.

The following gallery contains the winning image (a photo of the print), plus digital versions of the runner up and those prints awarded Highly Commended.

The evening was rounded off by an entertaining and fascinating talk by local author Mike Peryer describing the wildlife of Waikanae Estuary.
