Many of us were up by 6 am this morning and out to enjoy the morning light and sunrise behind Eastbourne. Gavin wins the prize for the biggest lens. Here he was trying to catch some kakariki in flight, with Ray providing helpful advice.

Dramatic Wellington Weather

06 Saturday Oct 2012

≈ Comments Off on Dramatic Wellington Weather

You can’t beat Wellington on a good day. Nor can you beat it on a dramatic weather day.

There’s been everything from sun to gale northerlies, and gale southerlies, and heavy showers. We’ve all managed to get out and about and capture some of the drama and the wildlife and the fantastic views from Matiu/Somes.

Here’s just one example of the view towards Wellington city as the southerly and showers arrived around 6 pm this evening.

A dozen KCPS members have arrived here safely, for an overnight stay and to take advantage of the many photo opportunities.

This is the beautiful view over Wellington Harbour as we plan the rest of the day.

Members’ Exhibition Monday & Spring Salon Entries Due

05 Friday Oct 2012

At our next regular meeting on Monday 9 October we’ll get to hear from three or four of our members.  Marshall Marsden, Gary Moncrieff, David Blyth and perhaps Johanna Goudsblom (she may be away) will each tell us about their own photographic interests, and show us some of their images.

This always provides a interesting insight into the passion we all share. One example that we may hear about is David’s image “Wairarapa Winter Morning”- which did very well for his first entry in the Winter Salon as a new member.

Don’t forget that entries for our spring Salon are also due – please use the online entry system. If you are submitting prints, then print out the details you’ll get from the email acknowledgement, and bring this along with your labelled prints on Monday evening.

Macro Workshop Report and Followup “Homework” for November

03 Wednesday Oct 2012

≈ Comments Off on Macro Workshop Report and Followup “Homework” for November

Some of the fifteen KCPS members trying out various macro techniques and equipment

It was another very interesting session on Monday night, with lots of experimenting with close-up techniques and equipment.  Many thanks to Ian and Hugh for bringing along special gear, and to Hugh for his opening presentation. The notes he handed out are available on our RESOURCES page.

Homework for the next Development Group session is to work on photographing just one or two small objects. Try several versions of each, and be ready to talk about the issues you struck, how you tried to deal with them, and bring the resulting questions you still have. Then we can have a good round-table session offering help.  The images don’t need to have a lot of post processing. It’s the taking stage of things we will be concentrating on. The session is on 5 November, so I’m sure it will go off with a bang well.

Hutt Camera Club Annual Exhibition On From 3-14 October

02 Tuesday Oct 2012

≈ Comments Off on Hutt Camera Club Annual Exhibition On From 3-14 October

The Hutt Camera Club have opened their Annual Exhibition, where their talented members display some of their best works. Quite a number of the prints are available for sale.

The venue is Odlin Gallery, at the corner of Myrtle & Huia Streets in Lower Hutt.

A unique aspect of this year’s exhibition is that members have been given full freedom in how to present the images, so you will see a wide range of styles from the traditional matting to more modern printing on other surfaces.

The exhibition runs 10 am to 4 pm, through to Sunday 14 October, so check it out if you get the chance.

Critique Session Monday – “Something Small”

06 Thursday Sep 2012

Posted by KCPS in Reminder

≈ Comments Off on Critique Session Monday – “Something Small”

“Haka Kid” – something small? – (c) Neil Gordon

At our KCPS meeting next Monday we will have a critique of your submitted images on the subject of  “Something Small”. This is a great opportunity for those members who have not submitted any images for judging in our Salons, but would welcome feedback on their work by their peers in a non threatening environment.

Also for members who are regular contributors to our Salons it’s the opportunity to stretch your imagination, within the bounds of the Topic.

If you are going to bring along prints they don’t need to be matted, but need to be large enough to be seen by the audience, so a minimum of 20cm x 15cm.

If you are going to bring along digital images, it would be helpful if you could email them  to Ian by Sunday midday (i.linning@xtra.co.nz) and bring along your USB drive on the night.

Come along and enjoy an entertaining and educational evening on Monday at 7:30 pm.

Development Group Monday – Portraits Continued

31 Friday Aug 2012

≈ Comments Off on Development Group Monday – Portraits Continued

The Development Group on Monday 3 September will carry on with the theme of portraits from the previous meeting.

If possible, please do your “homework” of an environmental portrait. In any event, bring along some images – a portrait or three – on Monday for some demonstrations and experimenting with post-processing. Should be another fun learning experience for all.
