≈ Comments Off on Final Month Events and Details
We’re into the final month of activities for this year. A rundown of what has already happened, and what is coming up:
We had a good attendance last night, and everyone (including me) learned more about how Lightroom can be used to input, organise and post-process images.
These can be entered online now. You can enter via the SALON ENTRY menu item on our website, or go direct to http://www.jotform.co/KCPS/bestofyear. Remember there are no grades for this final competition. Any member can enter one digital image and one print but they must be the same (or based on) images which were entered in one of the four salons during the year.
Online entries must be in by 5 pm on Monday 10 November. Bring your print along to the AGM that evening.
The AGM will be held at 7:30 pm on Monday 10 November, at OBC. Following the AGM we will show the AV of this year’s Laurie Thomas Landscape Competition.
Formal notice of the AGM was earlier sent to members, and further documents will be distributed.
For this meeting:
This year’s venue for the EOY will be the Kapiti Club at 32 Marine Parade, Paraparaumu Beach. The function will start at 7 pm. The esteemed John Boyd will be the judge for the Best of Year Competition, and other awards will be given. This is always a great night – don’t miss it.

≈ Comments Off on 2014 Spring Salon & Development Group Meeting
All 22 images which received either Honours or Highly Commended in the 2014 Spring Salon from judge Lance Lawson can be viewed online. Click on GALLERY in the main menu, or directly here. Thanks to Lance for his helpful judging last night, and for showing some of his recent commercial work.
It’s really pleasing to see how well new(ish) members in the Novice grade are doing. Gill Mackersy picked up an Honours for her print “Imperfect Beauty”, and Brian Holden had two Highly Commended digital images, once of which (“Intruder”) is shown below.
Congratulations to both Gill Mackersy and Rhonda Billington who will be promoted to the Intermediate grade in 2015, after submitting portfolios. (See the rules for the 2014 competition and promotion here.) The points have yet to be counted for promotion from Intermediate to Advanced. We’ll announce any changes at the end of year function.
The final Development Group for the year will be at 7:30 pm on 3 November. The topic will be “Lightroom Workflow”. Bring along some images (preferably RAW) on a thumb drive, for Neil Gordon to demonstrate how they can be improved using the tools available in Lightroom.

≈ Comments Off on Drone Talk on Monday 13 October
This Monday’s meeting is not to be missed. Paul Wolffram will give a presentation on drone photography and some of his experiences. The weather is looking good, so we plan to have an outside demonstration to start with (sunset is 7:38 pm). Let’s hope we don’t have any interference like this hawk taking out a drone!
Entries for the Spring Salon are also due on Monday. Online entries close off at 5 pm; bring any prints with an included printout of your online entry.
A reminder that Peg Griffin will be farewelled and her long life celebrated at 2 pm on Monday at St Paul’s Church, on the corner of Kapiti Road and Langdale Avenue.

All 21 images which received either Honours or Highly Commended from judge Glen Howey are now available. Click on GALLERY in the main menu, or directly here.
There were just two Honours awarded – congratulations to Barry Culling and Rachel Stevens!
I understand that we came 4th in the 2014 Wellington Regional Interclub competition (also know this year as Photosports) on Friday night, out of the six Wellington Camera Clubs. We came first overall in the prints section, but didn’t fare so well in the digital.
The Development Group at 7:30 pm on 1 September will be a “Question and Answer” session. Bring along your questions about your camera, or anything to do with photography, and we will discuss and try to help.

Bruce presenting the trophy to Neil
I do have to say that Bruce Girdwood did a great job of judging the entries for the Frank Hinchcliff Memorial Trophy on 28 July. The winner was, um, Neil Gordon, for the print “Edge Effect”. Carol Molineux was runner up with her print “Searching for Food” of a Buller’s Mollymawk.
Bruce reminded us that in evaluating images he was looking for Intent, Style, and Technical competence. He went on to update us on his own photographic journey – it is fascinating each year when he visits KCPS to see his own development, and where his image making is going.
For Bruce it is very much not “What am I going to photograph?”, but “Why am I going to photograph?”; he is making a visual diary off his experiences primarily for his own benefit. His imagery is inspiring.
Two members – Ian Linning and Hal Gimperson – will talk about their interest in photography and show some of their work at our next KCPS meeting on Monday.
This is also the deadline for your entries for the Winter Salon.
Online entries can be made at https://kcps.org.nz/salon-entry-form/ with a deadline of 5 pm on Monday.
