Photosports

I understand that we came 4th in the 2014 Wellington Regional Interclub competition (also know this year as Photosports) on Friday night, out of the six Wellington Camera Clubs. We came first overall in the prints section, but didn’t fare so well in the digital.

Development Group Monday

The Development Group at 7:30 pm on 1 September will be a “Question and Answer” session. Bring along your questions about your camera, or anything to do with photography, and we will discuss and try to help.

2014 Autumn Salon Results

30 Friday May 2014

Our judge for the KCPS 2014 Autumn Salon last Monday was our very own President, Ian Linning.

We had an excellent attendance of around 40 members to hear Ian’s thorough and constructive appraisals of all the images. Thanks to Ian for doing this.

The 29 available Highly Commended and Honours images can be seen in the 2014 Autumn Salon Gallery which is now online.  It was good to see Rhonda Billington receive her first Highly Commended for her Novice Print “Castle Point Lighthouse” – not taken on our recent trip!

After the judging, we watched a 5 minute audiovisual of images from some of those who had been on the very successful field trip to Castlepoint the previous weekend, and viewed some further submissions for the Waikanae Estuary exhibition.  The deadline for this has now been extended to next Monday 9 June – see details here on the website . And don’t forget you have until Saturday (tomorrow) night 31 May to submit images for our club set for the Trenna Packer – details on this blog post.

Enjoy your holiday weekend, but don’t forget that Development Group will meet as usual for the first Monday of the month on 2 June. The advertised topic is “Low Light and Fill in Flash Photography”.

Our judge for the KCPS 2014 Summer Salon last night was Peter Beddek APSNZ, a very experienced club member and Past President, who very kindly rolled up to take on judging for this salon just two weeks ago.

There was a good attendance to hear Peter’s considered views on the images.

All 26 Highly Commended and Honours images can be seen in the 2014 Summer Salon Gallery which is now online.

It was very pleasing to see brand new members Rachel Stevens, Roger Smith and Martin Manning gain Honours or Highly Commended ratings for their images below. Congratulations to them.

The EOY function  was an ideal opportunity for Shona Jaray (PSNZ President) to present the cup to Ian Linning (KCPS President).

2013 Spring Salon Results

29 Tuesday Oct 2013

≈ Comments Off on 2013 Spring Salon Results

Our judge for the KCPS 2013 Winter Salon last night was Lance Lawson. Attendance was a bit down (probably because it was Labour Day after all).

However, those who were present enjoyed Lance’s discussion of the images (very much a two-way discussion), as well as an insight into the commercial photography world when he talked about three of his recent assignments.

All 17 Highly Commended and Honours images can be seen in the 2013 Spring Salon Gallery which is now online.  The three honours images are shown below.

BEST OF YEAR COMPETITION

Don’t forget that entries are due by 11 November for the Best of Year Competition, which will be judged by Simon Woolf at our End of Year dinner on Monday 25 November.  There are no grades – each member can submit one print and one digital entry, based on entries which were made to the four salons this year.  You can go direct to http://jotform.co/KCPS/bestofyear to find out more, and to submit your entry online. Bring your print entry along to the AGM on 11 November.

2013 Winter Salon Judging

28 Wednesday Aug 2013

≈ Comments Off on 2013 Winter Salon Judging

Our judge for the KCPS 2013 Winter Salon was Glen Howey – splendid as always in his trademark orange tee shirt. Glen did another great job on judging last Monday. He also  showed an AV of a recent photo tour to Cambodia. He’s running another one – 25 days for a very reasonable cost – starting just after Christmas. Email him at glen@glenhowey.co.nz if you are interested.

All twenty Highly Commended and Honours images can be seen in the 2013 Winter Salon Gallery which is now online.

Congratulations to those who did well in this Salon – particularly those in the Novice section who came away with a slew of Honours and HCs, including five of the six images awarded Honours, as shown below.

hinchcliffCongratulations to Gavin Klee for his well-deserved win of the Frank Hinchliff Trophy, for his image “Ratana Church”. Here he is receiving the trophy from judge John Boyd.

Gavin also took third place in the competition!

The top three images are shown below.

Thanks to all who entered, and to John for his very insightful comments on the prints, as well as for showing us his own work, and some fascinating historical images from the PSNZ Permanent Collection.

Autumn Salon Judging

30 Thursday May 2013

Posted by KCPS in Meeting Report, Salon Results

≈ Comments Off on Autumn Salon Judging

We had more than forty people last Monday night to see the Ohakune Field Trip AV, and then hear from Bruce Girdwood, the Autumn Salon judge.

Bruce has been judging for KCPS for many years, and it’s always a privilege to hear his comments on our images, as well as to see where he is going himself on his photographic journey. His judging was thorough, constructive and helpful. Fifteen images received either Honours or Highly Commended. It was especially pleasing that two of our newer members received their first honours: Chris McGinty (in his first salon entry) for his digital image “Bloom”, and Gill Mackersy for her print “Wheels for Hire”.

All fifteen Highly Commended and Honours images can be seen in the 2013 Autumn Salon Gallery which is now online.

Summer Salon Gallery

The 19 images which were rated Highly Commended or Honours by Tony Whincup when he judged our Summer Salon on 25 March are now available. I’m sorry it’s taken so long – things have been rather busy with Natex.

Either go to the GALLERIES menu on our home page where from a drop-down you can access all galleries, or you can get to them directly here.  Enjoy.

Deciding on Natex Prints Layout

Thanks once again to all those who have been helping with various tasks for Natex.  One of the recent jobs was to look at all the accepted prints in the Te Horo Hall, and decide on the exhibition layout.

The Exhibition will be mounted in the West Gallery of the Wellington Town Hall next Wednesday.

If you weren’t able to register for the PSNZ convention, you can still see the Exhibition.  Best times for public viewing are on Friday and Saturday 3 and 4 May, from 9 am to 5 pm.  Do check it out if you can.

Report on Spring Salon Judging

23 Tuesday Oct 2012

≈ Comments Off on Report on Spring Salon Judging

We had a ball last night.

“Kapiti Ball of Light” – ©Ian Rotherham

A big thank-you to Ian Rotherham for coming down from Palmerston North to present his results of judging our Spring Salon, and for a presentation of his own impressive portfolio.

We then had a lot of fun with Ian explaining his personal project of photographing “balls of light”, and doing a real-live demonstration out on the lawn by the river while we all watched.

The Spring Salon gallery of Honours and Highly Commended images is now available online.  A special well done to Gavin Klee and Gary Moncrieff, whose four entries each received either Honours or Highly Commended, and to Barry Culling with three entries in this gallery.
