Kapiti Arts Trail – Johanna Goudsblom

Our very own treasurer Johanna Goudsblom is exhibiting in the Kapiti Arts Trail.

jo

She has been a professional photographer for many years and recently my focus has been on the medium of creative photo artistry. Creative photo artistry can take the imagination and carry us anywhere.

Her art has been published in the magazine “Living The Photo Artistic Life”, showcasing digital artists from all over the world, and edited by renowned Photoshop tutor Sebastian Michaels.

Her artwork has also been successful with entries accepted in the prestigious Pukekohe Franklin Creative Focus salon – an international annual competition which receives hundreds of entries.

Limited edition pieces can be  purchased as archival giclee canvas prints (in various sizes) or as archival matted fine art prints ready for framing.

Pop down and see her this weekend 5th & 6th November open 10-4pm, 23 Horopito Road, Waikanae.

Well done Jo, your artwork looks amazing.

Lighting Session – Development Night

Monday evening’s development session with Susie Whelan was a great success. Susie, who is IRIS Classical Portrait Photographer of the Year, demonstrated how she uses lighting in her home studio, and shared lots of ideas about her approach to making successful portraits, whether of people or dogs. This photo was made with two light sources, using the back wall of the hall as backdrop.

You can see more of her work on her website at  www.gggphotos.co.nz

Central Regional Convention

We all had a great time at the PSNZ Central Regional Convention held in Porirua last weekend. We were entertained by an array of guest speakers all of whom were very inspiring and had a lot of fun with the workshops and field trips around the hills.

We have fully recovered from the aberration of the recent Wellington Interclub Battle by almost sweeping the board at the Central Regional Salon! With 6 Cups.

Our Print and Digital sets won the two Interclub Cups, and the following people had individual successes:

Stop the Press

The committee are producing a calendar with a Kapiti focus for sale in the lead up to Christmas. It will be sold to club members and through local outlets such as markets. Images have been selected mainly from the Kapiti Exhibition earlier this year. Expected price about $15.
The images of retired Kapiti people that a club group have been working on, titled “Living in Kapiti,” will be at the Mahara Gallery for six weeks from 15 October. That period includes the two Kapiti Arts Trail weekend, so we should get lots of viewers.

Reminder about dates for the rest of the year:

Monday 3 October – Development night – Susie Whelan, Portrait Photographer of the year in the professional IRIS awards, and Open Print Champion at the recent Central Regional Salon, will demonstrate lighting techniques.
Sunday 9 October – midday deadline for online entries for the Spring Salon. Prints can be handed in at meeting on Mon 10th.
Monday 10 October – Member Exhibition night, with Greg Whitfield, Denise Katz and Peter Katz – really good to have newer members showing their work and talking about it.
Monday 24 October – Spring Salon, with Lance Lawson judging.
Monday 7 November – Development night – open for requests and suggestions
Monday 14 November – Annual General Meeting, followed by digital winners and acceptances from Trenna Packer, Laurie Thomas Landscape, Pukekohe-Franklin Creative Focus, and Central Regional Salons.
Monday 28 November – Annual Dinner and club annual awards.

Well done everybody, isn’t our club doing well?

What’s coming up

Several reminders:

1. Monday 1 August is a Development night, with a focus on lighting, especially flash. I hope some experienced members will come along to share ideas with newer members who have queries. Bring your cameras and flash units.

2. Midday Sunday 7 August is the closing time for online entries for Winter Salon, and print hand-in is Monday 8th.

Monday 8 August meeting: we will do a club member selection of our entries for the Wellington region interclub print battle. Bring along lots of prints that could fit the subjects below, and we’ll set them out on tables and all vote for the topics one by one – this is always fun. Smaller unmounted prints OK – but if they are chosen we need to get them printed bigger and mounted – if they are fairly standard shapes (2×3 proportions) I have mounts that can be recycled.

Subjects: Reflections, Looking Up, NZ Landscape, Happiness, NZ Wildlife, Macro, Impressions, Blue, Landing, Tryptich based on the Haiku: Winter leaver, buds tightly rolled, silence.

3. The actual Interclub gathering is Wednesday 17 August, 7.30pm at Khandallah – we’ll organise car-pooling to get people there.

4. Mahara exhibition –  BW environmental portraits of Kapiti retired people – the dates are 15 October to 27 November, so they include the two weekends of the Kapiti Arts Trail, which is really good. Anyone in the club is welcome to offer work for selection, and I can arrange the printing. So do consider approaching a friend, neighbour or relative who would be an interesting subject, and we’ll have a first look at what is available at the end of August. Still time after that if we need more to be taken!

Central Regional Convention 2016

Only 6 weeks to go before the CRC kicks off in the wonderful and diverse city of Porirua!!

It’s all coming together nicely and as you know, registrations have been open for some time (and are now filling fast).

Some workshops have already reached maximum numbers.

So, if any of your members have not yet registered, it would pay them to do so sooner than later to ensure that they get a preferred workshop and field trip

Please also mention to your members that the deadline to RECEIVE both Printed and Digital images for the Salon and Interclub competition is Friday, 2nd September 2016  Late entries cannot be accepted

Club Exhibition, Kapiti – Our Place

The club exhibition opening night was a huge success, officially opened by Deputy Mayor Mike Cardiff and followed by amazing selection of drinks and nibbles provided by our members. Everyone enjoyed the array of images, the display of diversity and massive talent our club has to offer.

A special thank you to our president Alison for all the work she did in preparing the images to the highest standard and ensuring the exhibition flowed cohesively.

If you haven’t been yet? the exhibition is still on until the Friday 24th June.
