I have listed a meet up for the Kapiti Coast Express Day, lots of photo opportunities.
We will be meeting at the Te Roto Drive Entrance, Paraparaumu at 10am, Saturday the 18th February. Please RSVP here https://www.meetup.com/KCPS-Photography-Meetup-Group/events/237664059/
The Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway is nearly ready to open to traffic, so the M2PP team would like to invite you to the Kāpiti Coast ExpressDay – your chance to experience part of the Expressway before it opens to traffic later in February.
Walk or bus 5 kilometres of Expressway between Te Roto Drive in Paraparaumu, or Te Moana Road in Waikanae. Thanks to the generosity of Mana Coach Services (external link) ExpressTours will run from both sites throughout the day.
The ExpressDay route is open to pedestrians and mobility scooters/wheelchairs on one side and tour buses on the other side. People can also choose to try out 5ks of shared pathway alongside the Expressway.
Start your journey at either Te Roto Drive in Paraparaumu for fun and entertainment, or Te Moana Road in Waikanae, for education and expert speakers.
There’ll be something for all tastes at both sites, including Kāpiti food trucks.
GOLD COIN donation.

An early reminder that our first meeting of the year will be on Monday 13 February – a general catch-up for us all, planning for the year’s events, and a surprise item the committee are planning. The brochure for the year will be available at that meeting.
Top of the agenda right now, however, is putting together two sets of images taken on the south Wairarapa coast by our members. These are to enter in the Wiltshire Cup (four digital images) and the Bledisloe Cup (four prints, subjects must be taken in NZ). A selection subcommittee will decide on the final sets. Once we know which images are chosen for the prints we will ask for larger high-resolution files to print from. Some images may come from last year’s field trip but others are welcome.
Please email your images in the size you would submit for club salons: max 1080 ppi on the vertical side, max 1620 pip on the horizontal side, SRGb and JPG. Your images can be of landscapes, buildings, people, activities, seascapes, even abstracts… we’d like lots to choose from. They need not have been in a club salon beforehand. Everything you send will be deleted from the computer once decisions have been made.
Entries are open to any New Zealander and PSNZ member residing overseas.
There are Four Sections available:
In a change from previous years registration and submission of entries will open on 1 December 2016 and will close on 10th February 2017. The selection process will be conducted over the weekend of 25 February, 2017.
Enter here http://www.photographyontheedge.org/ and click on the ‘Salon’ tab for details and Entry Form.
The PSNZ New Zealand International Salon is open for your entries and will close on the 20th February 2017.
Heaps of awards to be won including 12 Gold Medals.
NZ$4.50 per image. up to 4 images in each section.
Four sections:
For full information and to enter visit http://www.psnzinternationalsalons.com
The Auckland Photographic Society is pleased to announce that registration for the 65th PSNZ National Convention – Photography on the Edge.
Being held at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, from 6 – 9 April 2017, this will be an exciting opportunity for everyone to learn from the best, experience the enthusiasm of passionate photographers and to interact socially with other members and friends from throughout New Zealand.
If you have never been to a PSNZ national convention before, put an ‘I need to be here’ action on your calendar.
Register now for the ‘early bird’ discount and ensure you don’t miss out on your preferred choice of workshop and field trip. The timing of the field trips will allow delegates to attend one in the morning, be returned to the hotel, and to then attend an afternoon session. Read the instructions carefully and follow the easy steps to register.
There is an outstanding lineup of talented photographers, speakers and presenters, as well as a great support from sponsors and trade stands – you will definitely be spoilt for choice.
The website is packed with information, so check it out for yourself and don’t delay your registration at www.photographyontheedge.org

Hi everyone – last message of this year!
Update on AGM and following Committee meeting:
At the AGM we elected a full committee, except for a President! (Alison is not able to do a further year as president, according to the club rules.) The committee have decided to have a “rolling presidency,” with each member taking a turn for a month to chair the committee meeting and the two main club meetings. Alison has taken the role of Secretary, and so all routine business and communication can be handled by her.
The committee members for 2017 are:
Secretary and Immediate Past President – Alison Viskovic
Treasurer and Membership – Jo Goudsblom
Competition Secretary and Hostess – Karyn Crocker
Committee members – Sharon Burleigh, Gavin Klee, Rachel Stevens, Greg Whitfield.
We have finished the year on a high note:
Looking forward to 2017: the committee are planning a range of activities similar to this year, including a field trip, probably in May and probably to Hawkes Bay. Development sessions will be a “Topic of the Night” series, suited to both less and more experienced photographers. More details of all meetings will be in the club brochure, available at the first main meeting on Monday 13 February.
2017 National Interclub Salons: One early activity will be putting together club sets to enter in these Salons – Wiltshire Open Digital, Bledisloe Open Prints (NZ subjects), Bowron Landscape Digital and George Chance Landscape Prints. We have decided to base our sets on images taken in the area from Lake Ferry to Cape Palliser, starting with some from the 2016 field trip but asking all club members to submit other images they have taken in the area. While the Bowron and Chance sets need to be land or sea scapes, the open sets could be of buildings, vehicles, activities, wildlife, vegetation etc in that area…. So if you are over in the Wairarapa over the summer, do look for opportunities for new images. In late January we will ask you to submit digital copies initially for a selection panel, then we will arrange printing of those chosen for print sets. The sets have to be submitted in February, to be judged so the winners can be shown at Natex.
PSNZ 2017 National Convention “Photography on the Edge” will be in Auckland, 6 to 9 April. Information and registration at http://www.photographyontheedge.org
2017 National Exhibition: Entries opened on 1 December and close on 10 February. Information and entry process are on the Convention website (see above).
The committee wish you all the best for the festive season, and happy image-hunting!

≈ Comments Off on Photival – Wellington photography festival
New Zealand photographers are invited to submit their work for inclusion in the Photival Photography Festival. Three photographers will be selected to exhibit a selection of work at the Wellington Festival, launching in February 2017. The winners will be selected by a panel of international expert judges: Athol McCredie, Curator of Photography at Te Papa Museum, Nigel Atherton, Editor in Chief of Amateur Photographer, UK, and Myles Little, Photo Editor for TIME Magazine in New York City.
Have your work seen alongside internationally acclaimed photographers, in an exhibition in the city centre, as well as having one of your images displayed across the entire city to be seen by thousands, as part of our promotional campaign.
Theme: BRINK
Our world is on the brink in many respects. Will we save or destroy our environment? Will we create technology that vastly improves our lives or that will stop us from living them? Will we alter the current political systems to make a better world? Will we consider cultures, species, languages important enough to save? Show us your World on the Brink by submitting your work to be in with a chance to win.
CRITERIA
Please submit three images that fall under this year’s theme of ‘Brink‘. We want to see your world on the brink of change, be that environmental, political, social, economic or technological. These would preferably be a series, however we will consider unrelated images if they are of outstanding quality. We’re particularly keen to see work from residents of Wellington and New Zealand. Each submission of three images requires a submission fee of $10, payable through Paypal. You may make more than one submission if you wish.
All three images must be submitted in 300DPI PNG or JPEG. Minimum image size 2000 pixels on the long edge. Conditions of entry apply, please see the website http://www.photival.com/open-call/
