Canon Online Success

Congratulations to Shona Jaray! It’s just been announced that she came 8th in Round 5 of the PSNZ Canon Online competition, with her “Coal Pit Dam” image.

This is the second success for Kapiti Coast Photographic Society members in the Canon Online competition this year, following my image “Orkney Vista” placing in the previous round.

AGM Tuesday 8 November

Up Close with the Gannets (c)Stuart Ayres

Our AGM will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 8 November in the Presbyterian Church Hall, 43 Ngaio Road, Waikanae.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “I might get arm-twisted into joining the committee if I turn up.” Relax – we have sufficient nominations already. So you can come along and enjoy the formalities, including consideration of my President’s Report (now available under RESOURCES).

The AGM will be followed by a presentation showing many of the lovely images that were taken by those who went on the field trip to the Gannets in October.

And don’t forget to bring along your entries for the “best of year” competition.  You can submit one each of a colour print, monochrome print, and digital image – these must have been accepted in one of our four Salons this year. The winners will be announced by judge Simon Woolf who is MC at our end of year function on 22 November – tickets are $25 each and available for sale from any committee member. Partners welcome too.

PSNZ Membership Offer

Have you considered joining the Photographic Society of New Zealand? It’s well worthwhile.

We are an affiiliated society, so if you join PSNZ you get $5 off your membership subscription for KCPS. You will also receive a free copy of New Zealand Camera 2012 when it is printed next year.

But wait, there’s more.  PSNZ is running a membership promotion in association with Canon. This offer is for all new members who join PSNZ from 1 October 2011 and before 31 December 2011, plus for all existing members who renew their subs by 31 December (for 2012).

Your name will be entered into the prize draw for a Canon MG8250 printer plus a Canon PIXMA Creative Pack of paper, with a combined retail value of $650, kindly donated by Canon.

Subscription notices for 2012 for existing PSNZ members will be sent out in early November and you will be reminded of this offer. The Prize will be drawn in January and the winner notified by email. The winner’s name and possibly their photo with the Canon representative will also be displayed in Cameratalk and on the PSNZ website.

Checking out the Otaihanga Boating Club

Almost 25 members and family turned up during Sunday afternoon to check out the planned new venue for our meetings – the Otaihanga Boating Club.

It was a glorious afternoon, with Ian on the BBQ churning out sausages and onions, which were happily consumed in bread with Karyn’s special sauces, and washed down with liquid refreshments.

The setting is impressive, and even comes with built-in photographic opportunities – just imagine the sunsets from here.

The interior is spacious and suitable for our meetings .. it even includes a built-in overhead projector. However some thought will be needed on how best to display prints for our salons.

It was a most enjoyable afternoon, and all those who came were very positive and supportive of the planned move to this venue next year.

Sausage Sizzle and other Upcoming Events

Sausage Sizzle 30 October

Don’t forget the Sausage Sizzle at 3 pm on Sunday – come check out our planned new venue from next year.

AWARDS FUNCTION 22 November

Starting at the Sausage Sizzle, we’ll be selling tickets for our gala End of Year function, which will be held at the same venue, at 7 pm on Tuesday 22 November. $25 per ticket.

WORKSHOP 1 November

The next post-processing workshop is this Tuesday 1 November, at 6 Matipo Street, Waikanae. It’s the  follow up to the 4 October Mahara Place photographic exercise. Select an image from that photo-shoot that you would like to enhance, put it on a memory stick or CD, and bring it to this meeting.

Also would members who are conversant with enhancing programmes on their laptops please bring these to this meeting to show and help by demonstrating the secrets and mysteries of post-processing software techniques to other members.

Neil Gordon will be demonstrating Lightroom. Marshall Marsden will be demonstrating Serif Photo Plus, (a free downloaded programme.) Mike Brewer will be using Picasa (another freebie).

We can answer questions that arise from the discussion.

PS. It is helpful if members could wear shoes that they can slip off when they enter the “borrowed” house at 6 Matipo Street. This saves using a vacuum cleaner to clean up on Wednesday.

KCPS Spring Salon Results

Spring Salon Judging – Tuesday 25 October

Tracey Robinson

The main event for our regular 4th Tuesday meeting will be the judging of the spring salon. Tracey Robinson from Rotorua kindly stepped in at the last minute when the pre-arranged judge unexpectedly had an assignment in Australia. Tracey will not be able to be here in person, so we will read through her emailed ratings and comments.

The meeting will be at 7:30 pm Tuesday 25 October in the Presbyterian Church Hall, 43 Ngaio Road, Waikanae. See you there.

While I have your attention – don’t forget our upcoming Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 30 October. And time is running out to enter the Jack Sprosen AV competition – entries must be in by 4 November.
