Frank Hinchcliff Result 2012

24 Tuesday Jul 2012

≈ Comments Off on Frank Hinchcliff Result 2012

John Boyd was once again kind enough to judge our annual Frank Hinchcliff competition.  This competition and trophy is in honour of one of the founders and first President of the Waikanae Camera Club, the forerunner to our Kapiti Coast Photographic Society. The July 2009 KCPS newsletter included an article on Frank Hinchcliff written by Hugh Scott, which is now available as a one-pager and well worth a read.

Last night, with an audience of some 30 people, including three of our newest members, John provided his usual helpful and wise comments on the 25 entries.

And the winner was … “Shadow Me”, by Shona Jaray.  Well done, Shona.  Here’s John presenting the trophy to Shona, and the image itself.

The joint runners up were “Ancient but Current” by Bernie Fraser, and “Matterhorn” by Neil Gordon.

2012 Autumn Salon Results

30 Wednesday May 2012

“On the Ridge” – Highly Commended, Intermediate Digital Image – ©Carol Molineux

Many thanks to Tony Whincup for his judging of our Autumn Salon last Monday.  Around thirty members heard his insightful and constructive comments on our images.  He stressed the importance of how images should communicate.

Carol’s image “On the Ridge” was accidentally left out of the judging on the night, but was later reviewed by Tony and given a Highly Commended rating. It was pleasing to see many entries from our newer members, and to have them well received by the judge

The gallery of the 19 images that received either honours or highly commended is now available. (See also the GALLERIES menu item at the top of the page, to access all the salon galleries for 2010, 2011 and 2012, as well as earlier images).

Tony made the very good point in his own presentation that, since photography is about communication, then one of the best ways of making sure your communication is heard is to exhibit. He related his own experiences of exhibiting his “Playgrounds” series at the Ballarat International Foto Bienale in 2011, and how this triggered a series of further opportunities for his photographic art to be more widely appreciated.

All in all it was a very interesting and rewarding meeting, thoroughly enjoyed by those who were able to be there.

≈ Comments Off on End of Year Awards Function

What a great night it was. Our first big occasion at the Otaihanga Boating Club, and the place was decorated and buzzed with festive spirit.

Huge thanks to many people for making it all happen – Debbie Ayres (in particular), Stuart Ayres (including for photos), Nick Ayres, Karyn Crocker, Ian Linning, Jenny Gordon, Peter Beddek, Roy Opie from OBC, and also those  who helped up afterwards including Murray Woolcock. The caterers “Before & Afters” put on a splendid meal.

Thank you Simon Woolf, for once again being the MC  and judging the “best of year” competition, and for your long-time support and friendship over many years for our club/society.

And now … the envelopes please.
