≈ Comments Off on Street Photography 1st May – Development Night

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that our development night is this Monday the 1st of May and is on Street Photography.

It would be a good idea to bring your camera so we can help set up useful settings combinations, etc.

This will be followed by a Meetup on the 13th May in Wellington to practice what we have learnt. It just so happens that the LUX Light Festival is on that day so we should be able to get some interesting shots. To RSVP to the Meetup please click HERE

See you all Monday 🙂

KCPS 1st Meeting for the YEAR.

An early reminder that our first meeting of the year will be on Monday 13 February – a general catch-up for us all, planning for the year’s events, and a surprise item the committee are planning. The brochure for the year will be available at that meeting.

Wiltshire Cup & Bledisloe Cup 2017

Top of the agenda right now, however, is putting together two sets of images taken on the south Wairarapa coast by our members.  These are to enter in the Wiltshire Cup (four digital images) and the Bledisloe Cup (four prints, subjects must be taken in NZ).  A selection subcommittee will decide on the final sets.   Once we know which images are chosen for the prints we will ask for larger high-resolution files to print from. Some images may come from last year’s field trip but others are welcome.

Please email your images in the size you would submit for club salons: max 1080 ppi  on the vertical side, max 1620 pip on the horizontal side, SRGb and JPG.  Your images can be of landscapes, buildings, people, activities, seascapes, even abstracts… we’d like lots to choose from. They need not have been in a club salon beforehand. Everything you send will be deleted from the computer once decisions have been made.

The deadline to receive these images is Friday 27 January. Send to aviskovic@paradise.net.nz.

PSNZ National Exhibition 2017

Read the instructions carefully and follow the easy steps to register.

There is an outstanding lineup of talented photographers, speakers and presenters, as well as a great support from sponsors and trade stands – you will definitely be spoilt for choice.

The club exhibition opening night was a huge success, officially opened by Deputy Mayor Mike Cardiff and followed by amazing selection of drinks and nibbles provided by our members. Everyone enjoyed the array of images, the display of diversity and massive talent our club has to offer.

A special thank you to our president Alison for all the work she did in preparing the images to the highest standard and ensuring the exhibition flowed cohesively.

If you haven’t been yet? the exhibition is still on until the Friday 24th June.

We are very proud to announce our guest speaker for our meeting on the 27th June will be renowned wellington photographer and iris award winner Rob Suisted.

He will be giving a talk about his award winning book Molesworth Station, which will be on sale after the meeting for a special discounted price of $50.

Wilderness drove Rob Suisted’s passion to craft a lifestyle from wild places. Rob has visited much of NZ’s wilderness, Antarctica (18 times so far), Sub-Antarctic, the high Arctic and many spots in between.

Sharing this love through photography and guiding, Rob has photos on over 30 postage stamps, our new bank notes, hundreds of calendars, books, magazines, and murals all over the world.

Rob’s photographed 16 books so far, his last ‘Molesworth’ won a prestigious NZ book award. He’s just had the honour of filming Country Calendar’s 50th anniversary book (due September). He shoots for the likes of NZ Geographic and Tourism NZ.

Giving back to conservation is important, through photos and lectures, but also investing profits into forest restoration.

Previously Rob was the NZ National Marine Mammal Advisor & NZ Sea lion recovery group leader; working on issues of bykill, species recovery, tourism and strandings management.

Free Nik Collection and Training

02 Saturday Apr 2016

Nik CollectionThe highly regarded Nik collection of plugins for image processing used to cost many hundreds of dollars.  Then Google bought them, and they came down to something like US$125 (what I paid three years ago).

Now the Nik plugins are free, and highly recommended, even though they are probably not going to get updated any more.  They work with Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture. You can go here to find out about them and download:  https://www.google.com/nikcollection/

Even better, there is now a free set of online videos providing training on the Nik plugins.  Go here to register and view the videos online or download them: http://greylearning.com/courses/nik-bundle

Successful Open Evening

And what a beautiful evening it was.

22nd February 2016 BBQ & Exhibition Open Evening

About 30 members and 19 visitors enjoyed a sausage sizzle and nibbles at our second meeting of the year. We were really pleased that lots of local publicity drew so many visitors, and already seven of the visitors have joined the club.

This evening also saw the first use of our new set of print easels, made for us by Kapiti Menzshed, to show examples of work brought along by members. Alison got all the exhibitors up to introduce themselves and say a little about their images – one of the visitors said later it was the friendliness and variety of work shown that made her decide to join.

Four of the prints shown, with a steam train theme, were the club entry for the Bledisloe Interclub competition – but we won’t show them here till after the judging!
